Dr. Marlene Muller is the Deputy Associate Executive Dean: Education and Student Life at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot Watt. Her core responsibilities are not only to support staff and students, but also to strengthen stakeholder partnerships and experiences. She lectures in the fields of Business Management, with her favorite subject fields being Leadership, digitalisation and Human Resource Management.

Biography
Dr Marlene Muller is Associate Professor in Leadership and Deputy Associate Executive Dean: Education and Student Life at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University. With a career spanning Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, she has a strong record of leadership in digital transformation, staff development, and responsible business education.
A dedicated digital champion, Dr Muller has led initiatives to enhance digital literacy for staff and students, supporting online education strategies, digital workplace integration, and technology-enabled learning. She has played a pivotal role in faculty development, curriculum redesign, and embedding communities of practice within business education. Dr Muller’s is currently leading 2 AACSB working groups in curriculum and teaching effectiveness, strengthening academic innovation and faculty professional development within EBS.
Her research examines the interplay between followership and leadership, with a particular focus on cultivating authentic and inclusive leadership. Her current passion projects in higher education centre on Sense of Belonging, exploring how community-building enhances staff satisfaction and engagement. Additionally, she is deeply involved in Digital Literacy and the Digital Workplace, developing digital toolkits to equip staff and students with essential digital skills for future workplace success.
She has received multiple awards for pioneering in education, global values, and teaching excellence, reflecting her commitment to inclusive and evidence-based practice.
