Biography
I am an economist interested in studying key challenges facing society. I have a background in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and since specilaising in Economics have focused on development economics, environmental economics, and health economics, drawing on behavioural theories and public economics to help to understand how human behaviour, institutions, and markets interact within complex settings.
My current project focuses on policy solutions for Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). Having an effective system of antimicrobials requires having antimicrobials that are clinically and microbiologically efficacious against infectious pathogens and that are accessible to use. Antimicrobial effectiveness (AME) underpins modern medicine, food systems, labour markets and is fundamental for economic development and prosperity. Growth of AMR threatens AME, presenting a permacrisis. Infection prevention, access, surveillance, stewardship and innovation into novel antimicrobials, diagnostics, vaccines and alternative therapies are all vital to preserving AME, both to reduce overuse and misuse and thus preserve efficacy of current antimicrobials, and to contribute to novel antimicrobials. I am working to orgainse a set of dialogues at Panmure House, where we will convene stakeholders from different institutions and experts from different disciplines to understand diverse perspectives and motivations, bridging between acedemic, policy and industry to build towards practical solutions to support AME and the economic benefits that it confers.
