Personal profile

Research interests

My research is on the interface of quantum physics and mathematics. On the physics side I am inspired by fundamental questions in (supersymmetric) quantum field theory and string theory. On the mathematics side this often prompts deep relations with geometry, topology and algebra. You can find a list of my preprints here and some of my talks here.

Biography

After obtaining my PhD degree in 2009 with Prof Robbert Dijkgraaf, I obtained a Rubicon fellowship to work with Prof Sergei Gukov at Caltech. My son Tristan was born in Oxford in 2011. In 2013 I obtained a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin fellowship at the University of Oxford. My daughter Nora was born in Oxford in 2014. In 2016 we moved to Edinburgh, where I took up a permanent position at the Department of Mathematics in Heriot-Watt University. In this period I have been the Director of Educational Outreach, part of the Management Team of the GlaMS graduate school and part of the Executive Team of the Centre of Doctoral Training in Algebra, Geometry and Quantum Fields. Currently, I am a Professor in Mathematics.

Roles & Responsibilities

I am part of the Executive Team of the Centre of Doctoral Training in Algebra, Geometry and Quantum Fields (CDT in AGQ), and a co-initiator of the Geometry and Representation Theory in Field Theory (GRIFT) group.

I am currently supervising two PhD students: Subrabalan Murugesan and Loïc Bramley (together with Professor Tudor Dimofte).
