My research is on the interface of quantum physics and mathematics. On the physics side it involves questions from gauge theory and string theory. On the mathematics side there are often deep relations to geometry, topology and algebra.
At the moment I am working on the construction of supersymmetric partition functions for N=2 quantum field theories and their relation to various structures on the moduli space of flat connections on a Riemann surface, such as spectral networks and opers.
After obtaining my PhD degree in 2009 with Prof Robbert Dijkgraaf, I obtained a Rubicon fellowship to work with Prof Sergei Gukov at Caltech. My son Tristan was born in Oxford in 2011. In 2013 I obtained a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin fellowship as well as a Royal Society Research Grant at the University of Oxford. My daughter Nora was born in Oxford in 2014. In 2016 we moved to Edinburgh, where I took the position of Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University.
I am supervising two DPhil students: Omar Kidwai at the University of Oxford and Philipp Rueter at Heriot-Watt University.
I am the Director of Educational Outreach, organising amongst others the Mathematics Masterclasses, the Scottish Mathematical Challenge and an LMS Girls in Maths event in 2018.
