Biography

Linda Buchan is an Associate Professor of Organisational Behaviour at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot Watt University. Linda entered academia after a career in Human Resource Management, working in senior roles in blue-chip organisations as well as delivering business consultancy. Linda has just celebrated 30 years as a Member of the CIPD.

Linda’s interest in organisational behaviour and development led her to pursue a new career in academia and she completed her doctorate in leadership at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. Linda joined Edinburgh Business School in 2018 and has held several senior leadership (Interim Deputy Executive Dean, Head of HRM and Law) roles alongside her teaching responsibilities. 

Linda's teaching focus is on the people aspects of work, especially leadership, management and developing positive work environments. She designed and delivers the core MBA module, People, Work and Organisations, alongside executive education. Linda is a Senior Fellow of the HEA.

Linda’s research interests focus on the communicative process of leadership, Pragmatism, and developing engaging workplaces. She has published in Leadership and Project Management Journal, reviews for a range of other journals, and has recently published a book chapter in the Routledge Critical Companion to Leadership Studies.

Linda is currently Associate Executive Dean (Accreditation) and supports the school with institutional accreditations (AACSB, EFMD, PRME, Athena Swan) as well as the programme accreditation portfolio with Professional Statutory and Regulatory Bodies (PSRBs).
