Biography

Krystian Wlodarczyk graduated from the Wroclaw University of Technology (Poland) in 2006 with a M.Sc. (mgr inż.) degree in Electronics and Telecommunication and from Heriot-Watt University in 2011 with a PhD degree in Physics.

Following his PhD study, he joined the High Power Laser Applications group (http://www.aop.hw.ac.uk/) at Heriot-Watt University as a Postdoc Research Associate.  In September 2013, he became a member of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Laser-based Production Processes (http://www.cim-laser.ac.uk).  In September 2016, Krystian joined the Centre for Innovation in Carbon Capture and Storage (http://www.ciccs.hw.ac.uk), where his work is focused on the laser-based manufacture of three dimensional replicas of porous structures for the validation of simulations of the flow and reactive transport processes occurring in porous media.

Research interests

Krystian's research is focused on the investigation and development of laser-based processes for precision manufacturing. This includes CO2 laser polishing and ultrashort-pulsed laser micromachining of glass substrates, laser cutting and drilling of thin flex glass, laser joining of transparent materials, as well as laser texturing and marking of metal substrates. His research interest also includes the use of adaptive optics (e.g. deformable mirrors, spatial light modulators) for laser machining applications.

Krystian has collaborated with a large number of external partners, including Renishaw, M-Solv, PowerPhotonic, SPI Lasers, MAN Diesel, SISMA, Atlas Elektronik, University of the West of Scotland (UWS), United Kingdom Astronomy Technology Centre (UK ATC) and Cranfield University.

Krystian works as a Post-doc Research Associate within the Centre for Innovation in Carbon Capture and Storage (http://www.ciccs.hw.ac.uk).  Also he is involved in the research activities within the Applied Optics and Photonics group (http://www.aop.hw.ac.uk) and the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Laser-based Production Processes (http://www.cim-laser.ac.uk).
