Dr. Jelena Janjusevic is Associate Professor of Finance and Head of Accountancy, Economics and Finance, at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University Dubai.
She has been with the university since 2017 and teaches both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in finance and economics.
In her 23-year career, Dr. Janjusevic has worked with government officials, municipalities, social partners, and representatives of international institutions, such as the World Bank, IFC, EBRD, USAID, UNDP, CHF, EC, etc.
Besides teaching, Dr. Janjusevic has strong managerial and research experience. She has previously been engaged with many different projects dealing with macroeconomics, sustainable development, and public administration capacity building (initiating several reforms in the energy sector, urban planning, financial, health, pension system, education system, investments, business environment, and legislation improvement).
Previously, she used to teach at Montenegro Business School and the University of Mediterranean in Montenegro. Dr. Janjusevic spent nearly seven years working in the first think tank in Montenegro as a researcher and analyst. Additionally, she has successfully organised and attended many conferences, seminars, workshops, and press conferences. Furthermore, Jelena has a deep understanding of econometrics and statistics, organising surveys, focus groups, trend analysis, training, etc., and preparing many macroeconomic, socioeconomic, and financial analyses and papers.
Her areas of interest are - Quantitative Finance, Portfolio Selection, Climate Risk Management, Sustainable Finance, and ESG Investing.
She has been recognised among the Top 100 Sustainability Voices of 2025 in the Middle East, alongside inspiring leaders driving real change in the Middle East.

Spent almost 7 years working in first think tank in Montenegro as researcher and analyst on many different projects dealing with business administration, macroeconomic, sustainable development, tourism, public administration capacity building, trend analysis, (energy sector, urban planning, financial, health, pension system, education system, investments, business environment, legislation improvement, energy efficiency, etc). I have a very good knowledge of econometrics, statistics, organizing surveys, focus groups, deep interviews, legislation analysis, and desk analysis.
Later on, continued working with international organizations and projects in spatial planning sector, but also in education and public reform area. established and led Centre for Sustainable Development, national scientific research centre, JV of UN and Governmnet of Montenegro.
All those research activities served as bridge between science and policy decisions on different levels and for different partners on national and international level (government of Montenegro, municipalities, Union of Municipalities, social partners, foreign government officials, international institution representatives – World Bank, IFC, EBRD, USAID, UNDP, CHF, EC, etc, domestic and foreign private companies).
Jelena,s research work is connected with practical implementation, and very often ideas developed were financed by different global and national donors (Towards carbon Neutral Tourism, Beautiful Montenegro, Energy retrofitting programme of informal housing etc.).
Wrote number articles and was part of the team of authors of important publications. Currently working on few researches (introduction of the eco certification in Montenegro accommodation sector, sustainable project management, financing protected areas , etc).
