Dr. Hajar Aman Key Yekani is an Assistant Professor of Psychology and a Laboratory Technician at Heriot-Watt University, Dubai campus. She joined Heriot-Watt in 2019 and holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Shiraz University, Iran. Her academic journey has been shaped by a strong interest in social cognition and experimental research on reading, two key areas in which she has contributed to multiple research projects. In addition to her teaching and research roles, Dr. Aman Key Yekani is actively involved in supervising undergraduate and postgarduate dissertations and guiding students through experimental design and data analysis.
Dr. Aman Key Yekani’s research interests span two distinct areas: the psychology of typefaces and implicit social cognition.
In the field of typography and perception, she investigates how typefaces and their characteristics influence cognitive and emotional responses. Her work explores the perceived personality traits of typefaces, examining how different fonts convey distinct impressions and how these perceptions impact decision-making, branding, and user experience in digital and print media.
Separately, her research in implicit social cognition focuses on unconscious biases and associations. She employs Implicit Association Tests (IAT) and other experimental methods to examine how individuals form and activate biases related to various social categories. Her work in this area contributes to a deeper understanding of stereotypes, prejudice, and decision-making processes, shedding light on the automatic mechanisms that shape human judgment and behavior.
As a Laboratory Technician, Dr. Aman Key Yekani oversees the psychology lab, ensuring that students and faculty have access to the necessary tools and resources for conducting research. She plays a key role in experiment design, technical support, and data analysis guidance, helping students develop and execute their projects effectively.
In her role as an Assistant Professor, she teaches a variety of psychology and statistics-related courses at the undergraduate level. She also supervises students’ dissertations, providing mentorship on research methodology and analysis.
Additionally, Dr. Aman Key Yekani serves as a Statistical Advisor, assisting students in selecting appropriate statistical methods for their research and ensuring the accurate interpretation of data.
