Frédéric graduated in 2004 with a MSc degree in Construction Engineering and Project Management from the University of Texas, Austin as well as a MEng degree in Engineering from the Ecole Centrale de Lille, France. After a short period of work in the construction industry in France, he then returned to university and obtained a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada in 2008. He then joined the Computer Vision group of ETH Zurich, Switzerland, where he worked for two years on multiple projects with focus on image-based 3D reconstruction for urban and Cultural Heritage modelling (FP7 3D-COFORM and V-City projects). In 2011, Frédéric became a Lecturer within the School of the Eneergy, Geosicence, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS) at Heriot-Watt University where he subsequently became Associate Processor.

Frédéric leads the CyberBuild Lab ( with which he's already delivered research projects of value of approx. £1.5m, received international research and innovation awards, published numerous peer-reviewed papers, received professional and public media coverage, and participated in numerous public engagement events.
