Personal profile

Biography

I am an Assistant Professor (Digital Pedagogies and Course Design) within the Learning and Teaching Academy at Heriot-Watt University, based on the Edinburgh campus. I support staff across all five global campuses. I have worked in higher education for over twenty years and within the field of education technology for over twenty two years. I am an open education advocate and share my work on the National Teaching Repository.

I am a Senior Fellow of Advance HE (SFHEA), a Senior Certified Member of the Association of Learning Technology (SCMALT) and winner of an Advance HE Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) 2022.

Following a degree in Pharmacology from the University of Edinburgh my passion for technology and education shaped my professional journey. As a digital learning lead within medical education at Queen's University Belfast, I shaped the provision of a bespoke learning environment to meet the complex requirements of the undergraduate curriculum. Moving to Ulster University, I transformed the digital accessibility and inclusion strategic direction to enhance the student experience.

Working in a nascent field within Northern Ireland I worked to establish a local members group of the Association for Learning Technology to build a rich community of practice.

In 2023 I established the new annual conference - Escape Rooms in Education Showcase, combining my expertise of digital technologies, creative approaches to teaching and community building. This international fully online event now attracts over 300 global participants per year and blends, inspiration, practical guidance and experience of digital escape rooms across education sectors.
