Dr. Billie Hiew obtained his MEng (Hons) degree and PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nottingham. His PhD research work involved the removal of pharmaceutical residues by 3D graphene-based structure adsorbents. Dr. Billie is an associate member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers (AMIChemE) and Graduate Engineer registered under the Board of Engineers Malaysia. His research expertises include nanotechnology, environmental pollution control technology and biomass reutilisation.
Dr. Billie's research interests centre on nanotechnology, advanced materials development and adsorptive separation technology. He is experienced in the development and investigation of novel graphene-based nanomaterials, carbon- and biomass-based composites for environmental pollution abatement. His research focuses on the construction of nanomaterial into practical engineering structures such as 3D porous graphene-based adsorbents for wastewater treatment, specifically on synthetic dye, heavy metal and pharmaceutical pollutants.
His research also covers the recycling of agricultural and biowaste into value-added products such as biosorbent, biochar and activated carbon for the application in wastewater treatment and bioenergy. Dr. Billie's research also covers the application of quantum dots and nanomaterials in the degradation of gaseous VOC and wastewater treatment via photocatalysis.
