Profile Summary
Dr. Ashish Kalkal is a dedicated researcher specializing in Biosensors, Nanoengineering, and Point-of-Care Diagnostic Technologies. He currently serves as a Research and Innovation Associate at the Institute of Biological Chemistry, Biophysics, and Bioengineering (IB3), part of the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Heriot-Watt University, UK.
Previously, Dr. Kalkal contributed as a Research Fellow in Flexible Electronics and Wireless Sensing at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Wellcome/EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences (WEISS), University College London. He also held the position of Research Associate at Divyasampark iHUB Roorkee for Devices, Materials, and Technology Foundation.
His academic foundation includes a B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering (2014) from UIET Kurukshetra and an M.Tech. in Biomedical Engineering (2016) from NIT Kurukshetra, India. He earned his Ph.D. in Biosciences and Bioengineering from IIT Roorkee in 2022, where his research on nano-enabled biosensors for cancer biomarker detection won him the Excellence in Doctoral Research Award.
Dr. Kalkal’s work has been featured on international platforms such as Nature India and Atlas of Science. His accolades include the Best Oral Presentation Award at National Biomedical Research Competition 2021, and several awards for oral and poster presentations at leading scientific conferences/Seminars.
With a strong focus on translating lab innovations into real-world health solutions, Dr. Kalkal continues to advance the frontiers of Biomedical engineering and Biosensing technology.
