Biography

BSc Mathematics (Glasgow) 1981. PhD (Heriot-Watt) 1995. Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries 1984. Employment: Scottish Amicable Life Assurance Society 1981-1989, Heriot-Watt University 1989 to date. Honorary Librarian of the Faculty of Actuaries 1998-2007. David Garrick Halmstad Prize 2003. Elected Honorary Member of the Actuarial Society of South Africa 2005. Elected FRSE 2006. Finlaison Medal of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries 2011.

Research interests

My recent research interests are in the impact of genetic information on insurance, and financial services in general.
