Dr Anees Farrukh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Accounting, Economics & Finance at Heriot-Watt University's Edinburgh Business School in Dubai, where he is Programme Director of the MSc International Accounting and Finance. He holds a PhD in Accounting from Heriot-Watt University and an MSc in Strategic Financial Management from the University of Dundee. Before joining Heriot-Watt Dubai in 2023, he was a Lecturer at the University of Strathclyde.

His research looks at how accounting and accountability shape social outcomes, with a focus on NGOs and third-sector organisations in developing countries. His work covers social impact evaluation, NGO accountability, postcolonial perspectives on trust and counter-accounts of racism. His recent article on educational NGO accountability and postcolonial mistrust appears in the Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal. His research has been supported by seed funding from the Open University, Strathclyde Business School abd CIMA.

Anees teaches social and environmental accounting, accounting information systems, and international accounting theories. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the 'Accounting for Impact' scholarly community.

Dr Anees Farrukh is Programme Director of the MSc International Accounting and Finance at Heriot-Watt University Dubai. He leads the programme's curriculum and keeps it in line with professional accreditation requirements, regulatory developments, and industry needs in the GCC and internationally. As Undergraduate Dissertation Coordinator, he is responsibile for mentoring and successful completion of disseertation for honor's students.

Anees is Global Course Leader for Social and Environmental Accounting (C38SE) and Accounting Information Systems (C30AS). In these roles he leads curriculum reviews and develops teaching materials across Heriot-Watt campuses. He has also developed postgraduate material in Climate Risk Management, Research Methods, Accounting for Risk and Accounting Theories. Beyond the classroom, he mentors student teams for the CFA Research Challenge and contributes to departmental outreach. He also reviews for academic journals and supports/supervise doctoral candidates.
