Personal profile

Biography

Ashikin is an Assistant Professor at the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, with over seven years of teaching experience. She delivers core mathematics modules for engineering and computing programmes, including Ordinary Differential Equations and Mathematics for Computer Science, and serves as Course Leader and Senior Course Leader, overseeing curriculum planning, assessment design, and module quality.

Her teaching is student-centred and inclusive, with a focus on supporting learners from diverse academic backgrounds. She actively contributes to initiatives such as WattKnEW Maths Workshops, Math Gym, EPS Remedial Programmes, and MACS Bridging Programmes, helping students build confidence, close knowledge gaps, and achieve academic success. She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and is completing her Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning (PGCertTL) soon.

Beyond teaching, she demonstrates strong academic leadership and community engagement. She serves on committees for university conferences, facilitates STEM and mathematics workshops for schools, and conducts outreach programmes supporting underprivileged and refugee students.

Her research in numerical analysis, particularly multistep block methods for stiff ordinary differential equations, has resulted in publications in Q1 and Q2 indexed journals and a registered copyright (MyIPO).

Through her teaching, leadership, and research, Ashikin strives to inspire students, advance knowledge, and make a meaningful contribution to both the university and society.
