Personal profile

Biography

I am an Assistant Professor in the Learning and Teaching Academy. Most of my work is focused on assessment and feedback, and I teach the ‘Reframing Assessment and Feedback’ course on the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning. I also lead the Senior Fellowship Pathway, which supports colleagues to gain Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

My research is currently focused on assessment and feedback, and in the past I have also published on student engagement, student surveys, and the philosophy of education.

Prior to joining Heriot-Watt, I worked at the University of Strathclyde, and before that at the Higher Education Academy.

My background is in the philosophy of mind and language, and my thesis defended externalism about mental content.
