Adnan Ilyas is an Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University within the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences. Since 2021 he has been the Programme Director for Graduate Apprenticeship (GA) programme BEng (Hons) Engineering: Design and Manufacture (Electronic). His main areas of research interests include energy harvesting, storage and smart systems integration.
Adnan received a BEng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (2012), MSc in Renewable Energy and Distributed Generation (2013) and PhD in Electrical Engineering (2019) from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. His PhD research was on the development of a piezoelectric system capable of converting mechanical energy generated by the impact of water droplets into electrical energy for low-powered devices or applications.
