Biography

Adnan Ilyas is an Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University within the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences. Since 2024 he has been Deputy Head of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering discipline. 

His main areas of research interests include energy harvesting, storage and smart systems integration.

Adnan received a BEng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (2012), MSc in Renewable Energy and Distributed Generation (2013) and PhD in Electrical Engineering (2020) from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. His PhD research was on the development of a piezoelectric system capable of converting mechanical energy generated by the impact of water droplets into electrical energy for low-powered devices or applications.

Research interests

Energy Harvesting, Micro Electromechanical Systems (MEMS), Sensors, Power Management, Energy Storage, Smart Systems Integration.
