Dr Zia is an Assistant Professor at Institute of Mechanical Process and Energy Engineering (IMPEE) School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh campus. He leads Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Laboratory. He is a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA), United Kingdom, and endorsed as a Global Talent in Materials Performance by the Royal Academy of Engineering, United Kingdom. His teaching interests are Materials & Manufacturing and Design & Mechanics, and his research integrates these areas to deliver sustainable and high-performing Products.
Before Heriot-Watt, Dr Zia worked for The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, Case Western Reserve University, USA, and Technical University Ilmenau, Germany, where he developed new and improved materials designs, formulations, and manufacturing processes of surface coatings, low-dimensional materials, polymer composites, and textiles for mechanical, tribological, energy storge ,and biomedical applications.
