The course aims to enable students to:

1. Explain the use of group theory to construct reducible representations.

2. Interpret molecular bonding and vibrational motion using group theory.

3. Analyse molecular electronic spectra using group theory and the Franck-Condon principle.

4. Distinguish the contributions of different photophysical and photochemical processes to the fates of electronically excited states.
