Sustainability: Can your lifestyle make a difference?

Press/Media: Research

Description

What does sustainability means? Can we achieve it through small changes in our own lives, or does it require big changes in our social and economic system? What does this look like for people living and working in Midlothian? This interactive discussion will explore sustainability: its implications for our individual lifestyles and also its implications for wider environmental, social and economic factors. Drawing on local examples, academics Dr Elli-Maria Charalampidou (civil engineer, Heriot Watt University) and Dr Nikolaos Papadogiannis (historian, Bangor University) will lead on how tackling social inequalities supports more sustainable development in vital industries such as energy and mass tourism. Participants, including some from Midlothian Council will be invited to share their own experiences as part of the workshop. This event will be opened and introduced by the Provost of Midlothian, Peter Smaill.
