I was invited by the British Academy to participate in this high-level, closed workshop in recognition of my British Academy–funded project Amazon Indigenous Wisdom: Shaping Climate Solutions in Brazil. Although the meeting took place in a hybrid format, I participated online. The workshop brought together a highly selected group of experts, diplomats and practitioners and was held under the Chatham House Rule (New York), enabling open and strategic discussion on the future of global climate governance. Building on a prior high-level dialogue convened by the United Nations University Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR) in May 2025, following calls by President Lula and COP30 President Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, the workshop examined the persistent gap between climate ambition and implementation, and explored pathways for more agile, coordinated and effective global governance.Discussions were structured around three core themes: Software (ideas and approaches), Hardware (rules and institutions) and Politics (trade-offs and coalition-building), with Brazil’s framing and insights from complexity science informing critical reflection on the political and technical feasibility of proposed reforms.
To participate in this workshop, I submitted a paper, which was accepted and circulated in advance among participants (paper attached). The submission provided the basis for my invitation, contributing evidence and analytical perspectives drawn from the British Academy–funded project Amazon Indigenous Wisdom: Shaping Climate Solutions in Brazil to the high-level exchanges on global climate governance.
