Since 2008, I have been actively engaged in PROGRAU’s main research line City and Society (formerly User Perception of the Built and Natural Environment), developing nationally and internationally funded research that addresses climate change, social inequalities, ageing, environmental psychology and urban planning. I have acted as Principal Investigator for a sustained portfolio of externally funded projects based at PROGRAU, including long-term research on ageing and age-friendly cities (ESRC PlaceAge, 2016–2020), social inequalities and housing rights (The Olympic Legacy of Rio 2016: A City for Whom?, CAPES/CNPq), refugee resilience (2019–2022), sense of place as public policy (2020), and climate change and Indigenous knowledge (Amazon Indigenous Wisdom, 2024–present), for which PROGRAU is the main Brazilian partner. Collectively, these projects position PROGRAU as an internationally connected research hub bridging the Global South and Global North.Within PROGRAU, I currently supervise two PhD candidates as first supervisor, working on themes of climate justice, sense of place, participatory urban methodologies and social inequalities. One of these doctoral researchers undertook a Visiting Fellowship at Heriot-Watt University (November–December 2025), strengthening international research exchange and capacity building. I also currently supervise two Master’s students, supporting research design, qualitative and participatory methods, academic writing and dissemination. Overall, as part of my responsibilities within PROGRAU, I have supervised to completion 18 postgraduate researchers and 27 undergraduate researchers, providing sustained academic guidance, methodological support and research leadership.
Through the Laboratory of Behavioural Studies (LabCom), which operates in close articulation with PROGRAU, I supervised between 2016 and 2023 a further 63 undergraduate researchers (research assistants) and 11 postgraduate researchers integrated into funded research projects. In November 2023, I supervised seven undergraduate students who presented research linked to PROGRAU projects at the 9th SIIEPE – Integrated Week of Teaching, Research and Extension (UFPel), with four projects receiving Best Paper awards. This demonstrates strong vertical integration between undergraduate research training and postgraduate research leadership.
Since 2008, I have taught two postgraduate courses annually at PROGRAU, including Directed Analysis of Environmental Perception – Statistics and Perception and Analysis of Urban Space – Participatory Research Methods. In parallel, I have led PROGRAU’s international research engagement through formal collaborations with institutions in the UK, Spain, Argentina, India and Chile, including Heriot-Watt University, the University of A Coruña, the Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia San Juan Bosco, Sri Venkateswara University, and University of the Bío-Bío through visiting fellowships, joint projects and international workshops that have strengthened PROGRAU’s global research profile.
