Grant amount $182,000 Responsibilities included: conceptualization of valid and reliable instrument to measure language proficiency and ability to interpret; recruitment of a committee of consulting experts in the fields of cross-cultural communication, language testing and interpreting studies and hiring and training of research associates and assistants; passing the National Institute of Health; IRBs Merced County Hospital certifications (exam, hearings); data collection of interpreted health-care encounters; transcription and analysis of encounters; test design and piloting; design of test administration materials and scoring guidelines and protocols; training of testers, and report writing.
