Description
Royal Academy of Engineering Industrial Secondment - PETROINEOS
Professor Raffaella Ocone, FREng, has been awarded an Industrial Secondment from the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Professor Ocone will be spending six months, starting in June 2014, at PETROINEOS in Grangemouh, working on a project which will combine an extremely relevant research problem in the petrochemical industry, namely the storage of sour water, with the teaching of safety and engineering ethics. The work will build upon Professor Ocone’s expertise in modelling complex systems and engineering ethics.
Through the secondment Professor Ocone, who has chaired the Royal Academy of Engineering Teaching Ethics working group, will strengthen the relation between PETROINEOS and Heriot-Watt. Chemical Engineering at Heriot-Watt and PETROINEOS run a joint degree called “Engineers of the Future” which aims at embedding into a modern engineering degree work based skills in a Modern Apprenticeship and industrial placement.
