Description
Join Professor David Whyte, Janet Newsham of the Hazards campaign and John Murphy of Unite the Union for a free online seminar hosted by the Institute of Employment Rights. As the Coronavirus pandemic tragically brings workers' health and safety concerns to the fore, the panel will discuss the UK government's resistance to regulating working conditions.
Professor Whyte is coauthor of a new IER report, International health and safety standards after Brexit, due for release next week. In this publication, he and collaborator Andrew Moretta - both of the University of Liverpool - examine the consistent failure of UK governments to uphold international standards in health and safety for the last 40 years. The UK, it reveals, has ratified fewer than one in five ILO health and safety Conventions, embraced by the vast majority of its European peers.
