Geography Induction Week 2025

Activity: Participating in or organising an event › Participation in workshop, seminar, course

Description

As Year 1 Coordinator and organiser, I led the planning and delivery of Geography Induction Week 2025, welcoming new students into the programme through a dynamic and carefully structured series of activities. I coordinated sessions designed to introduce the core themes, methods and values of contemporary geographical study, enabling students to meet academic staff, explore campus resources and engage in collaborative workshops that demonstrate geography’s capacity to connect environmental, social and spatial perspectives.

The programme included orientation on key learning pathways and introductions to digital and field-based research tools. I also oversaw participatory activities, including mapping exercises, guided photo walks and group tasks, aimed at fostering a strong sense of place within the university and supporting the early formation of academic and peer networks. Throughout the week, particular emphasis was placed on student wellbeing, academic support and a smooth transition into university life, ensuring that students began their studies with a clear understanding of the Geography programme and a strong sense of belonging to an inclusive and supportive learning community.
