(Associate Guest Editor for Research topic "Damaging Effects of Industry on the Atmosphere and Climate in Emerging Economies"
Industrialization, overpopulation, and urbanization are the main causes of climate change and global warming and are fundamentally related to energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Rapid technological advances and their applications for improving human life have also led to increased energy consumption, and global energy demand increases by 2.8% annually. Additionally, increasing fuel consumption among different sectors (e.g., agriculture, construction, commercial, etc.) has significantly affected the internal balancing processes of the global natural ecosystems. Achieving environmental sustainability and avoiding and reducing environmental degradation is an unprecedented challenge for policymakers across the globe.
Addressing climate change, reducing carbon emissions, adopting energy-saving behavior, and implementing sustainable practices is a common goal which requires all types of organizations (large, medium, and small) to integrate governance mechanisms into their decision-making, adopt and implement green practices, and energy-efficient ways to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions.
Therefore, we welcome submissions that span a range of themes, including (but not limited to):
• A global review on carbon emissions and energy consumption, and fossil fuels;
• Energy consumption by different sectors (i.e., manufacturing, construction, households, services, education) and their contribution to carbon emissions;
• Relationships between economic growth, globalization, industrialization, urbanization, and energy consumption;
• Corporate governance mechanisms and carbon performance;
• Role of individuals and small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) in the sustainability of the environment.
