Amazonian Social Cartography: Mapping Lives, Territories, and Resistance was an exhibition held at the GRID Building (Heriot-Watt) that presented drawings and first-person testimonies from Indigenous peoples of the Brazilian Amazon, offering powerful, place-based accounts of climate change. Through hand-drawn maps, visual narratives and recorded voices, the exhibition foregrounded Indigenous perspectives on territory, memory and resistance, revealing how climate impacts are lived, understood and contested on the ground. By centring Indigenous knowledge and visual expression, the exhibition invited audiences to engage with climate change not as an abstract phenomenon, but as an everyday reality shaped by relationships to land, rivers and community; challenging dominant representations and opening space for more inclusive, justice-oriented climate dialogue.
