Ecotoxicological impacts of deep-sea mining

Description

From April 11th to 13th 2023, the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) and the MiningImpact research project jointly conducted an international scientific workshop on ecotoxicological impacts of deep-sea mining (DSM). The workshop was hosted at BGR in Hannover, Germany, and organized in a fully hybrid format. About 50 participants, including the interested science community as well as some members of the Legal and Technical Commission (LTC) and other stakeholders, came together in person and online, to gather current scientific knowledge on toxic risks and ecotoxicological impacts of deep-sea mining and to discuss possible ways to derive environmental thresholds and to approach regulatory implementation.
