Corpus technologies for linguistics research

Description

The workshop will consist of two parts. The theoretical part will address the question of how corpus methodologies can be useful in translation studies and give an overview of the development of corpus-based translation studies. Different types of corpora and issues of corpus compilation and design will also be addressed. In the practical session, participants will learn how to use the interface of Sketch Engine and build corpora: your own corpora – monolingual and bilingual, web-based corpora as well as corpora available through the Sketch Engine platform. The workshop will cover also how to conduct various types of research in both a parallel and a monolingual corpus in addition to the basics of monolingual and multilingual terminology extraction.
